Klay Thompson Injury Update: Warriors Star Guard Shoots in Full Uniform Before Suns

Golden State Warriors guard Klay Thompson is close to returning from injuries that cost him more than two seasons. Before Friday’s game Phoenix Suns, the five-time All-Star showed his progress in his recovery.

Fully dressed, Thompson went through a shooting routine on the Chase Center floor. Thompson has not yet played the game at Chase Center, which debuted in March 2020, as he missed the 2019-20 season due to an ACL rupture and last season’s Achilles tendon rupture.

The video comes in the middle of an already positive Thompson news week. On monday The Warriors ordered Thompson to the Santa Cruz Warriors, their G-League subsidiary, to increase their practice replays. A day later, Thompson was cleared of 100% contact.

Thompson is expected to return sometime around Christmas, and he can barely contain his excitement.

“I’m not afraid of being injured again because the last two times I’ve been injured were just a weird accident, you might say,” Thompson said. “I hate to use the phrase ‘I can’t wait’ because I love being present in my life, but I can’t wait to get to play in front of our fans again. I really, really enjoy being a warrior.”

The Warriors have done well, to say the least, without a sharp Thompson. Golden State is 18-3 and behind the game in the Phoenix league’s best record. Stephen Curry, The equivalent of Thompson’s Splash Brothers, is looking for another NBA MVP, averaging 27.8 points and 6.6 assists.

Golden State will play against Phoenix for the second time in four nights on Friday at 10pm ET. The Warriors hope to avenge the 104-96 defeat Suns served them on Tuesday.
