FOURTH SUBJECT: NOTIFICATION
Lions came to Sunday after converting in just five throws that traveled at least 21 yards in the air during the season. There was one touch on those throws, from last week’s 39-yard Goff to winger Josh Reynolds.
Campbell said he was going to be more aggressive in Sunday’s match against Minnesota’s injury defense and finished 30th in the league in overall defense and scoring defense.
When Goff was now three weeks away from the tense slant and didn’t have the services of star players D’Andre Swift, Campbell knew he had to rely on recipients and tight ends to get on the field in the feed game, and they did. .
Goff hit a tight-lipped TJ Hockenson in a 25-yard pass from the middle in Detroit’s first touchdown. Campbell said Hockenson was Goff’s second chapter in the play, showing how Goff saw the field well in advance and worked through his progress. This gave Hockenson a 9-yard strike for a touchdown a few games later.
On the next run in Detroit, Goff joined the tight-headed Brock Wright with a 23-yard touch pass that Goff could fit in a very tight window.
“It was a perfect throw from Jared (Goff),” Wright said. “You know, he played so well today. We all played a complementary game. It feels great to be a part of that win.”
Goff joined Reynolds with a pair of deep 25 and 27-yard passes in the game. He also hit a wide receiver by hitting Calif Raymond 24 yards. More than any other game this year, the Lions pushed the ball off the field in the passing game, and it’s no surprise that they scored their second-highest score of the season.
“We really tried – we’re trying to hone this feed game a little bit and try to get a little bit of confidence in him,” Campbell said of Goff. “We’re really trying to make it clear to him and our friends, including our recipients. That’s it – here’s the vision.”
After the game, Campbell paid tribute to tight-headed coach Ben Johnson. Johnson has taken on more of the role of pass-game coordinator since Campbell took game calls four weeks ago.
