LONDON: Andy Murray has resigned from longtime coach Jamie Delgado before the start of the 2022 season, according to Friday news in the British media.
Delgado has been on Murray’s team since 2016, helping him with his second Wimbledon championship and world number one in the same year.
He moved to the position of head coach from Ivan Lendl in 2017, before Murray’s career derailed due to a hip injury.
Although the 34-year-old returned to the ATP tour after two surgeries, he has dropped to 134th place in the world.
Delgado is reportedly working with Denis Shapovalov of Canada, who ranks 14th in the world.
Murray will continue trial with German Jan De Witt at an exhibition ceremony in Abu Dhabi next week as he prepares for next month’s Australian Open.
The Scot, who has recently worked with Johanna Konta’s former coach Esteban Carril, will face Dominic Thiem at the Mubadala Tennis World Cup against Rafael Nadal if he wins the Austrian.
