Nigerian men’s clay champion Henry Atseye and women’s number one player Oyinlomo Quadre have been crowned winners of this year’s Rainoil Tennis Open Championship.

In the men’s doubles final at Clay Court in Lagos Country Club, Henry Atseye showed why he is the clay champion in Nigeria when he defeated defending champion and No. 1 Joseph Imeh in two straight 7/6. (7/4), 6/2 to win.

After receiving her trophy and prize money, Atseye praised Rainoil for supporting tennis in the country and pointed out that tennis lessons offer Nigerian players the opportunity to be exposed to clay.

Oyinlomo Quadre, who defends the women’s championship at the annual Rainoil Tennis Open Championship, also retained their title by defeating number one, Marylove Edwards, in two straight rounds.

The quadre, who came in second in the tournament after a break of about seven months due to injury, proved to be too hard a nut to crack for his opponent as he dominated all of them to quit the ambition of Marylove Edwards he met. for the first time in his career and finished the game at 6-4, 6-1.

Speaking at the end of an energy-consuming encounter, Quadre said he was happy to retain the title despite a seven-month break.

“It wasn’t an easy game because there was a lot of excitement out there, but I played my best game and won against an equally good opponent,” he said.

In her own remarks, Marylove admitted to playing against a very good player; said he tried his best, but his best was not enough to oust him.

In the men’s doubles, Mathew Abamu and Michael Chima won Henry Atseyen and Nnoso Madueken, while the women’s doubles were won by Omolayo Bamidele and Oyinlomo Quadre.
