Men’s Hockey Drops Final in Alaska, 4-1

FAIRBANKS, Alaska – Anton Rubstov and Antti Virtanen each collected a pair of passes to lead the Alaska-Fairbanks men’s hockey team to a 4-1 win at the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) on Wednesday night at the Carlson Center. With the win, Nanooks will improve to 4-12-0, while Engineers will drop to 8-11-2.

Garrett Pyke scored the first goal of the game in the opening round at 14.45. After winning the attack area draw, Pyke fired a blue line that found its way to the back of the net. Rubtsov and Virtanen earned entry points.

RPI leveled the game 1-1 in the middle of the second round with a graduate student rocket from the top of the left circle. Justin Addamo. The third goal in his series and the sixth goal of the year got help from his classmates Shane Sellar and a sophomore Jakob Lee.

Gustavs Davis Grigals grabbed the victory in the goal, stopping 31 shots during the night, while his opponent Marshall blocked 22 times. Rensselaer ended up with 0 five and Nanooks 0 2.

The engineers are now idle until Dec. 30, when they will host the University of Vermont at Houston Field House (4 p.m.). Alaska will travel to Denver on Dec. 31 and Jan. 1.
