Fans and commentators were left in disbelief on Thursday night when David Warner was painfully left for less than a century for the second consecutive test match.

Warner needed pain-relieving injections into his ribs to get on the field before he moved to one of Australia’s most dramatic days of test cricket to dominate Adelaide.

The Aussie opener hit 95 before throwing the Ashes number into the Adelaide oval before Australia went to the canton on Thursday from 2-221.

Warner’s cruise to the trio and barely seemed worried about England’s attack, but he hit straight on Stuart Broad while five ran away a ton.

The left-hander has now been fired in consecutive shifts in the 90s after beating 94 in the first test in Brisbane.

It is noteworthy that Warner had been fired only once in the 90s in a test that was on its way to ashes.

“I can’t believe it. I’m amazed,” Auscan legend Ricky Ponting said in a comment to Channel 7.

Shane Warne said on Fox Cricket, “I have nothing. I’m speechless.”

When Mike Atherton said on SEN Radio, “England was on his knees. They can’t believe they took Warner. On a bad day, it has made them smell.”

Warner reached the fifth test hundred in Adelaide.

He has four tons at Adelaide Oval, Gabba and Sydney Cricket Ground – his best return on all fields.

The average for left-handers in Adelaide is now 81.42.

Marnus Labuschagne was also on the threshold of the first ton against England, not beating 95 after playing his last 32 balls under just one run of the lights.

Labuschagne and Warner together formed the second turning point of the 174 round, just an hour later Pat Cummins was excluded from the test and confined to his hotel room in close contact.

Steve Smith was also unbeaten after 18 take back Captain Cummins and wearing a quick suit blazer at short notice.

But it was Warner who convinced himself in the Adelaide Oval when England’s tactics of colliding with both him and Labuschagne failed.

When Warner hit the ribs last week and didn’t hit properly after that, he was careful to start and took 20 balls to get off the mark for his slowest starting turn ever.

It happened when England’s first 10 overs and the last 10 were lively, hitting the racket seven times in the first hour, six balls bumped into the pillows and three reviews crashed back.

Their only prize, however, was Marcus Harris with three, which Jos Buttler spectacularly grabbed from Stuart Broad and continued 13 of his dismissals without reaching 50.

What is crucial, however, is that the 69 exchanges in between offered nothing to tourists, as there was a six-man tactic on the side that Warner himself admitted he did not understand.

Warner’s knockout also came after he had reached an average of just 9.5 in 2019 in Ashes, which Broad crashed seven times, returning with Anderson to Adelaide.

“Looking at the seven layoffs (in England), I probably played in some where I didn’t have to,” Warner said.

“But I don’t think the difference they’re bowling here today is hitting positions. That’s the length in England.

“I knocked out my wrinkles, and Marnus was also able to adjust to leave the ball at a good length.”

Meanwhile, Labuschagne rode his luck, Buttler dropped to 21 and 95 for his chances to have used.

But between those moments, he drove in style and used a pull shot successfully, helping Australia schedule its run perfectly the other day.
