Indian sports in 2022: 2021 was a special year for Indian sports. A new star – Neeraj Chopra was born after winning historic athletics gold, while the country’s love of hockey was re-ignited after winning a bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics in India. January 20-February 6: AFC Women’s Asian Cup 2022 (India)

With India successfully hosting the World Cup for under-17s, the women’s game is now finally getting the spotlight it deserves. The tournament features 12 of the continent’s best teams and will serve as the final stage of the 2023 FIFA Asia World Cup in Asia. Five teams will advance directly to the World Cup through the playoffs (including the playoffs in fifth or possibly sixth place), and the other two teams will advance to the inter-federal playoffs.

The original dates for the tournament were in late October and early November, but had to be moved again due to COVID-19.

4-20 February 2022 Winter Olympics (Beijing)

In India, one athlete gets to two different events for the first time. Arif Mohammed Khan, an alpine skier living in Jammu and Kashmir, made history by qualifying for the grand slalom as well as the alpine slalom class. The qualifiers of the Indians themselves are a big deal at an event where India has barely performed.

February 8-June 30: 2021-22 Men’s FIH Pro League

The FIH Pro League will restart with a match between Spain and England on February 4, 2022. India’s opening match will be played on February 8 against Canada. After a brilliant 2021, all eyes are on hockey players, and a good presentation here will go a long way, given both the CWG and Asiad later this year.

April 16-20, 2022 All England Open & May 8-15 Thomas & Uber Cup (Bangkok)

The latest edition of All England was quite disappointing from an Indian perspective and the shuttles hope to get on the journey in 2022. There is a lot to drive like PV Sindhu, Kidambi Srikanth and the new sensation Lakshya Sen.

In both the Thomas & Uber Cup, India fell in the quarterfinals. Retirements, team selection calls were not the best and India expects a better performance this year.

IBA Women’s Boxing World Championships May 6-21 (Istanbul)

In 2019, India had won one silver Manju Ran and three bronzes – MC Mary Kom, Lovlina Borgohain and Jamuna Boro. This time, fans are waiting for the gold that India had last redeemed in 2018 through the legendary Mary Kom.

World Championships in Athletics (Oregon) July 15-24

This is an event where Neeraj Chopra has repeatedly repeated his desire to win. A field full of stars will gather in the United States for the event. The last event in 2019 was attended by a 27-man Indian force and produced three finalists in a 4×400-meter mixed race, a 3,000-meter men’s hurdles and a women’s javelin throw. This time, all the gazes are on the golden boy in Neeraj Chopra as he watches the Grand Prix in Athletics.

28.-8. August Commonwealth Games (Birmingham)

India finished third in the final round with 26 gold medals and a total of 66 medals in third place with historical medals in table tennis, weightlifting and athletics. It proved to be India’s best ranking since the 2010 Commonwealth Games they hosted. This time, shooting and archery, events where India has traditionally been strong, will be left to India.

21.-28. August 2022 BWF World Championships (Tokyo)

In 2021, four Indian quarterfinals were seen for the first time, including three men. Lakshya Sen grabs the bronze and Kidambi Srikanth makes it to India’s first ever finale in the men’s series, so badminton fans will at least see the encore. Among the women, all eyes are once again on PV Sindhu as she tried to win a medal after being interrupted last year.

Asian Games (Hangzhou) September 10-25

India improved on its previous best medal, which was achieved eight years earlier at the 2010 Asian Games in Guangzhou, China, winning a total of 69 medals, including 15 gold. Historical first series were created in table tennis, wrestling, boxing and badminton, and India is sure to improve on previous performances.

September 10-18, 2022 World Wrestling Championships (Belgrade)

The last World Cup was not the best from an Indian point of view, as none of the male printers managed to win a medal. However, Sarita Mor grabbed the bronze and Anshu Malik the silver to make sure India did not come home empty-handed. This year, the goal is more medals.

12.-25.10. ISSF World Rifle / Pistol (Cairo)

11-30 October 2022 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup (India)

Historical attendance figures greet FIFA after it granted hosting rights to the men’s version in 2017. The pandemic may be a significant factor, but the women’s game is sure to get a boost from such a revelation. It remains to be seen whether the Indian football forces will keep their promise.

14-18 December 2022 BWF World Tour Finals (Guangzhou)

Indian shuttles hope to reach the finals of the season. Last time, there were participants in the men’s, women’s and doubles classes in India, but the medal could not be confirmed. Lakshya Sen had created history by surviving the block stages. There is hope that India can win the medal this time.
