Pickleball is a big hit among new recruiters

HOOK Pickleball ended its first year in style.

t was an eventful year, made possible by strict adherence to HSE and board guidelines, which all the players in the group enthusiastically did, ”said founder Jack Butler.

“It meant that old friends could meet and new friends were made in the new environment of the pickle ball.”

The pickle ball suitable for all ages has been described as a combination of badminton, tennis and table tennis. The first five games of the year were played outdoors during the summer. Irish summer means preparing for any weather and umbrellas were brought.

In October, the group moved indoors. Playing at Fethard’s Sean village house didn’t mean unexpected interruptions to play due to bad weather. It meant introducing more stringent security measures to prevent the spread of Covid-19, as all players will have to present a vaccination certificate from the start.

“One of the special things created is the bond between the players, we’re all new to the game – all beginners.”

Everyone came to life by dressing up for the last session for something from Christmas.
