Why the AU is the best destination for Caleb Williams

Rumors turned out to be true, and former Oklahoma quarterback Caleb Williams is officially on the NCAA transfer portal. The second quarterback in the 2022 recruiting class had a resignation at Sooners, but he announced today that he will weigh all options after playing for just one year at Norman. One of these options should include Auburn football.

While the real freshman said returning to Oklahoma would definitely be an option, he is actively interested in talking to other programs and finding the most suitable one after former Oklahoma head coach Lincoln Riley abruptly left the program earlier this year.

Williams led the Sooners to a 5-2 record as a starter after getting Spencer Rattler to lead the Red River Showdown in early October, and was named to the semi-finals of the Shaun Alexander Award and the Davey O’Brien Award.

Pete Thamel said on Twitter that Williams’ father told Yahoo Sports that his son has not yet decided on a destination, but the most important thing for their family is to prepare Caleb to be an NFL quarterback:

Come Auburn’s new offensive coordinator for football, Austin Davis, who began his college career as a football player and eventually played and coached in the NFL. When Tigers brings with them someone who can personally identify with Caleb Williams and help the coach in a successful professional career, Plains would be the perfect landing place for the latest quarterback to move to the transfer portal.
