CPW rescues a deer from the basement of the Breckenridge family

Have you ever wanted to play ping pong with a deer? A Breckenridge family found an animal in the basement near their table tennis table.

Colorado Parks and Wildlife officers rescued a deer that was trapped Monday after falling from a snow-covered window well into the basement of a home. The call came to the house at about 3.30pm on Ski Hill Road in Breckenridge.

Wildlife authorities found a deer grazing near the home, trapped in the basement. Police in charge opened the doors to create exits for deer, but did not get the deer to leave because access to the exit required a staircase.

CPW officers calmed the deer and cut off its horns to fit in the stairs of the house and get back out. CPW points out that deer antlers usually fall at this time of year and deer grow new horns this spring.

It was great teamwork, and a small incision in the leg of the deer seemed to be healthy, said CPW District Wildlife Manager Jake Kay in a press release.
