Timo Meier’s five-goal game amazes the world of hockey

The match between the San Jose Sharks and the Los Angeles Kings on Monday was far more significant than anyone would have thought before through 2021-22, as both teams are surprisingly in the playoffs. Sharks were just three points behind the Kings as the game progressed, making it a huge division match.

Thanks to Timo Meier, San Jose narrowed the gap even further with a win of 6-2.

After two consecutive disappointing seasons, Meier has been fantastic in 2021-22 and will compete in Monday’s race with 40 points in 34 games. He raised the total in a big way compared to the Kings when he scored a ridiculous five goals. Three of these shares came in the first, while two extra pots in the second. Even more impressive was that he was only able to do it in 11:38 minutes of ice time through the first two screens.

As you might guess, the heroic performance garnered a lot of attention.

Meier joined an elite group on a massive expedition. Not only was he the first Shark to ever score five goals in a match, he only became the Fifth Player in the last 25 years. Others in that episode were Mika Zibanejad, Patrik Laine, Johan Franzen and Marian Gaborik.

While Meier is certainly pleased with his performance, he is still excited about how important this game was to his team. Sharks now has a record of 21-17-2 in 40 games, which is good for a second wild card spot in the Western Conference.

Even more exciting is that they are now only one point away from second place in the Pacific Division. A second five-goal finish is hard to come by, but if Meier can continue to build his awesome season, he may well lead the Sharks team in the playoffs.
