The Nebraska women’s gymnastics team won the Big Ten victory at home and won the Illinois numbers 195,500-195,375. The Huskers came from behind in the final round of the Big Ten victory.
Seniors Kynsee Roby and Makayla Curtis led NU to victory. Roby won the balance boom title, while Curtis earned the floor practice title.
Round one
The Huskers started in the vault and scored 48,725 for the team. Kaitlyn Higgins started the night at 9,725. Emma Spence followed by 9,675 again Ayzhia Hall reached a seasonal record of 9,800. Kinsey Davis earned 9,775. Makayla Curtis was 9,725 at the same time Katie Kuenemann made his collegiate debut at the event with a score of 9,700.
Illini started with uneven bars and earned a team point of 49,150. Mia Takekawa led Illinois with 9,900 and took the event title.
Round two
Nebraska had a strong second round with a team of 48,950. Kathryn Thaler started with a Huskers score of 9,725 Genesis Gibson followed by 9,700. Clara Colombo earned 9,275. Spence reached a record for the season at 9,850. Kynsee Roby followed by 9,800. Davis finished NU with a bar of 9.875.
Illinois competed in the vault and earned 48,925. Takekawa earned 9,850 and took the event title.
Round three
Within a radius, the Huskers earned a team point of 48,900. Spence started NU strongly with 9,800. Hall followed with 9,725. Higgins earned 8,825. Davis got 9,750, while Thaler earned a season record of 9,775. Roby finished the round with a record 9,850 season and won the event title.
On the floor, Illini earned 48,900 team points. Illinois were led by Amelia Knight, who earned 9,825.
Fourth round
The Huskers placed on the floor with the best team result of the season at 48,925. Spence led the Huskers with 9,825, a record for the season. Kuenemann followed with 9,650. Hall earned a season record of 9,825. Curtis added his best of the season with a score of 9,850 and won the event title. Higgins followed with 9.775 Halle Rourke ended the night with a score of 9,350.
Illini ended the night with a team score of 48,400. Takekawa led Illinois with 9,800.
Overall, the competition
Illinois gymnast Takekawa won the title with 39,250. Spence finished second in multiplayer and earned 39,150.
Next
Nebraska will return to the race next Monday, Feb. 7, against Ohio State. The meeting is scheduled to begin at 7pm CT at the Bob Devaney Sports Center and will be shown live on the Big Ten Network.
