HONOLULULower Campus Road at the University of Hawai’i is at its busiest as the Rainbow Wahine soccer team officially opened fall camp on Tuesday morning.
With the 26-person roster in attendance, head coach Michele NagamineEntering her 12th season at the program’s helm, began with their standard physical testing before partaking in full-on training and practicing later in the week. The Squad will leave campus for the next two days for team building and off-campus training before returning to Mnoa on Thursday.
With 16 returnees, four Seniors Headline the group. All-Big West second team member, forward Kelci Sumidamidfielder Eliza Ammendoliadefender Julia Wolfe and goalkeeper Lauren Marquez.
The 2021 campaign was one of growth for the Rainbow Wahine, as they accumulated a 2-9-3 record but returned six players who saw significant playing time on the backline, along with a midfielder general in sophomore Mia Foster. The team’s top scoring threats include Sumida, Ammendolia, plus the sophomore striker combo of Krista Peterson and Nicole Ando. The group of four scored 10 of the team’s 14 goals a year ago.
The roster features 10 newcomers, ranging from true first-year students and transfers to Graduate transfers. Many of which will contribute in 2022.
UH will begin its season on the road for the first time since 2012 with an exhibition at Northern Arizona University on August 14thfollowed by the season opener at Grand Canyon University on the 18thth. The ‘Bows will wrap up the road trip on the 21stSt at Arizona State before returning home to host the OUTRIGGER Soccer Kickoff on the 25thth against Seattle.
