Rondout Valley loses season opener 4-2 to South Glens Falls – Daily Freeman

ACCORD, NY The Rondout Valley field hockey team opened its season Friday with a 4-2 loss to visiting South Glens Falls in a non-league match.

Ally Dennin gave the Ganders a 1-0 lead with a goal with 3:18 left in the opening quarter. Josei Kozack provided the assist.

South Glens Falls tied the match on Katelyn Klotz’s goal with 6:55 remaining in the second quarter before going ahead 2-1 on Mia Benincasa with a second left in the opening half.

The Bulldogs increased their lead to 3-1 on Kaia Dake’s score with 10:53 left in the fourth quarter. Lillian Willis closed out the scoring for the visitors with her score with 54 seconds left in the match. Dennin recorded her second goal of the game with 25 seconds left. Sam Schneller provided the assist.

It was a great learning experience for our team to start off with a challenging game like this,” Rondout Valley Coach Nanette Simone said. “We learned a lot and have a focus on what improvements we can make.”

Desiree Baumann made 12 saves for Rondout Valley. The Ganders are back in action Tuesday, Sept. 6, when they go to Pine Bush for a league match starting at 4:15 pm
