The Finals of the 2022 International Ice Hockey Federation Women’s World Championship comes down to the United States and Canada, to the surprise of nobody. Both teams entered the tournament with one goal in mind – to dominate pool play and get warmed up for the Finals against each other. The United States won its only match-up this tournament over Canada (5-2) in what might have been a preview to this match today, where it was able to lock up the Canadian teams offense and score just enough to earn the win.

The United States moved on to the Finals with a win in the semifinals over Czechia (10-1) in another dominant team performance on the ice:
Overall the United States went undefeated 6-0 with a 52:4 goal differential. Half of those goals came against Canada in their one meeting so far, showcasing how balanced this team is this year.
Canada had a 30:8 goal differential while going 5-1 overall in play across their schedule this year, only losing to the United States.
In that first game this year, Canada actually jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first period and looked terrific. Sarah Fillier scored on an assist from Renata Fast and Sarah Potomak at the 3:29 mark to get the game started, then Ella Shelton added in another goal just before the period ended on an assist from Victoria Bach and Kristin O’Neill.
Then the United States took over.
The US scored two goals in the period to tie things up heading into the final period before exploding for three more goals there to overwhelm Canada for the win.
