Gophers Finish the First Round of the Sunflower Invitational Tied for 2nd

Lawrence, Kan. The University of Minnesota Women’s golf team finished the first round of the Sunflower Invitational in a tie for 2n.d place. Since the course became too dark to continue playing, the second round will resume tomorrow. With a strong performance in the first round, Emma Carpenter earned a tie for 6thheading into the second round.

At the end of the first round, Kent State ranked 1St with a team score of one-over par (289). The Gophers secured a team score of twelve-over par (300) which placed them in a tie for 2n.d place with Sam Houston.

“We really had a great round trending in the morning, which set us up to make a charge to the top of the leaderboard,” said Coach Rhyll Brinsmead.”This course is a beast, combined with sub 40 Degree weather it was a grind all day. We slipped in the afternoon but still have an opportunity to record a solid finish in a stacked field.”

Notable:
Emma Carpenter accumulated four birdies and a score of one-over par (73) on her path to 6th place in the first round of the Sunflower Invitational.

Isabella McCauley tallied two birdies and was at par from holes 14 through 18. She ended the first round in a tie for 10th with a score of two-over par (74).

Grace Curran also notched two birdies and closed out holes 13 through 18 at par. She went into the second round in a tie for 17th place.

Luisamariana Mesones collected two birdies to open the back-9, wrapping up the first round with a score of five-over par (77) and in a tie for 20th in the tournament.

Leah Herzog recorded one birdie in the first round. Her score of fourteen-over par (86) placed her in 78th.

The Maroon & Gold will finish the second round of the Sunflower Invitational Tomorrow starting at 10 am CST. The completion of the third round hinges is cooperative weather.
