As the college football schedule enters the stretch run of the 2022 season, it’s now clear which teams are the true contenders. But many key games are still left to be played before conference Championship games and the College Football Playoff reveal, making for a finish that is exciting yet harrowing for the teams involved.

Of the teams currently in the AP Top 10, a number of them still have marquee matchups — some of them potential AP Top 5 showdowns of undefeated squads — to survive before they can see their championship aspirations become reality. To be the best, you have to beat the best, which typically requires looking at adversity in the eye.

As the stakes begin to rise, we identified the scariest game — not necessarily the most challenging game, although that can also be true — left on the schedule for each AP Top 10 team.
