Pakistan’s Abrar Ahmed made a dream debut and more on the first day of the second Test match against England in Multan. The mystery spinner got England’s famous batting unit in for a fix. He became the first Pakistani cricketer to claim a a five-door draw in the first round his Test debut and finished with astonishing figures of 7,114 as England were bowled out for 281 in their first innings after electing to bat first.

Most of Abrar’s deliveries at the Oval were top-notch, but the couple of googlies he bowled to Zak Crawley and Ben Stokes were highlights. The 24-year-old began his Test career with the first wicket of Zak Crawley in England’s opener. Crawley, the centurion in the first Test, was stumped by the googly. The ball crept through the large gap between the right bat and the pad and rattled the stumps.

Abrar took four consecutive wickets of Ben Duckett, Joe Root, Ollie Pope and Harry Brook before lunch to complete the historic five-wicket haul.

Captain Stokes (30) and Will Jacks (31) added 61 runs but Abrar bowled another delivery of beauty that left Stokes shell-shocked. The ball hit around the leg stump and spun past Stokes’ bat to trouble the woodwork behind. The awesomeness of the delivery was written all over Stokes’ face. The England captain couldn’t believe how many rounds the ball had to go around his bat.

Jacks was trapped leg before the wicket soon after hopes of Abrar getting a 10-wicket haul rose, but his bowling partner Mohammad Zahid came to the party to clean up for England.

Mark Wood, the only change England made to the playing XI, hit eight fours in his unbeaten 36 off 27 balls to highlight England’s aggressive batting throughout before Mahmood ended England’s innings quickly.

Wood, playing his first Test since March, replaced the injured Liam Livingstone after the all-rounder flew back home after injuring his knee in the first Test.
