Sky Sports has agreed a five-year deal to show the US Open starting with the 2023 Grand Slam event.
The partnership with the United States Tennis Association (USTA) welcomes tennis back to Sky Sports and confirms the broadcaster as the home of the sport in the UK and Ireland.
The new deal begins with the 2023 US Open at Flushing Meadows, which begins on August 28, with Sky Sports having exclusive broadcast rights until the 2027 event.
“We are very excited to be partnering with the USTA once again to host the US Open, one of the world’s biggest Grand Slam tennis tournaments,” Sky Sports CEO Jonathan Licht said.
“We’ve had a great history with the USTA and remember Andy Murray winning the 2012 US Open as one of our greatest moments on Sky Sports. This is another huge sporting event for our viewers and we look forward to bringing tennis fans more of their views. love and welcoming new fans to the sport .”
As part of its coverage, Sky Sports has access to all individual court feeds and broadcasts at least 135 hours of competition during the two-week Grand Slam tournament. Extensive coverage provides content for both existing tennis fans and new audiences across Sky Sports’ linear, digital and social channels.
The agreement covers men’s and women’s tournaments as well as corresponding doubles, mixed doubles, juniors and wheelchair competitions.
The partnership comes at a time when British tennis is also flourishing, with former US Open champion Emma Raducanu and the Billie Jean Cup team of Harriet Dart, Heather Watson and Katie Boulter leading the women’s competition and Alfie Hewett winning the 2022 US Open. wheelchair singles title and Cameron Norrie, Andy Murray, Jack Draper and Dan Evans all starred at Flushing Meadows last year.
The USTA and Sky Sports share a commitment to provide world-class live coverage using innovative technology to showcase what the US Open has to offer and attract new and younger audiences to the sport.
Sky Sports previously had a long relationship with the USTA, partnering for 25 years between 1991 and 2015, and will welcome tennis back to its channels next year as the US Open is one of the most prestigious Grand Slams of the Open era.
