From Brennan Armstrong’s Favorites

Although they have been heavily linked to other quarterbacks recently through rumors, the Notre Dame football team has a good chance for Brennan Armstrong. Even if Armstrong looks to lose for the NC State Wolfpack, the Irish have +600 odds to land the former Virginia quarterback. All this according to Dan Kilbridge from bookies.com.

Notre Dame football’s projected odds put him at 14.29%. In contrast, NC State’s odds are -150, or an assumed probability of 60%. Even if Armstrong added cap room, it’s fair to assume there would still be stiff competition for the starting job. Some guys move the needle more in the position where the team should focus the most.

Regardless, Armstrong is a very talented quarterback and has put up solid numbers during his college career. The biggest concern was last year when Armstrong seemed to regress quite a bit while dealing with some nagging injuries.

Two seasons ago, Brennan had a completion percentage of just over 65% and threw for 4,449 yards while tallying 31 touchdowns to go with 10 interceptions. Some really great numbers. This past season, he struggled to a 54.7% completion percentage and had 7 touchdowns to 12 interceptions. Obviously, throwing more interceptions than touchdowns over the course of 10 games isn’t ideal. It’s okay to be aggressive throwing the ball and making mistakes, but the good has to outweigh the bad, and that just wasn’t the case.

He demanded playing time and would create more competition in the quarterback room. Still, Brennan Armstrong is not a guy the staff should interfere with. There are other options out there that would be clear starters for Notre Dame football barring a massive return for Tyler Buchner.

Don’t count Buchner out, but we have yet to see the things that can be found in him at the college level. However, I have full faith in his abilities and think that at his best he can push anyone from the starting spot in the nation. Unfortunately, I don’t think that guy should be Armstrong.
