RV Women’s Basketball shuts out RV Kansas State in Big 12 series opener, 87-41
Harmon Road scores 15 points, makes 13 assists and grabs 8 rebounds in the win.
AUSTIN, Texas The Texas women’s basketball team’s defense held Kansas State to 35 points below its season average as the Longhorns secured an 87-41 victory to open Big 12 play on Saturday at the Moody Center.
Texas (10-4, 1-0) limited Kansas State (11-3, 0-1) to 13-45 (28.9 percent) shooting from the field and pushed the Wildcats to a season-high 24 wins.
In their last four games, the Longhorns have committed 107 turnovers (26.8 per game) and held a 125-19 scoring advantage.
Four players scored in double figures for Texas, each leading with 15 Harmon Road and Sonya Morrisfrom 14 Shaylee Gonzales and from 12 Holle’s thing.
Texas continues Big 12 play on the road next week on Jan. 4 at TCU.
Game notes
Kansas State’s 41 points are the fewest allowed by Texas against a Big 12 opponent since giving up 41 to Kansas in 2017-18.
Texas held Kansas State to season lows in points (41), 3-point field goals (1) and season highs in turnovers (24).
Texas has now held 13 of 14 opponents below their season scoring average.
It’s the sixth time this season the Longhorns have held an opponent to 50 points or less in a game.
Harmon Road She became the first player in NCAA DI women’s basketball this season to record at least 15 points, at least 13 assists and at least eight rebounds in a game.
The 13 assists are a career high for Harmon and are the ninth most in a game in program history.
Texas outscored Kansas State 22-9 in the second quarter. The Longhorns used a 17-2 run to go up 39-17 and led 39-19 at halftime.
Kansas State’s nine points in the second quarter were 13thOnce this season, Texas held an opponent to single digits in a quarter.
Texas made a season-high 10 three-point field goals.
The Longhorns had 22 assists on 31 goals, their fifth game of the season and third straight game with 20 or more.
Shaylee Gonzales scored in double figures for the eighth game this season with 14 points.
Holle’s thing made three 3-pointers in the first half and opened with 11 of his 12 points. Holle blocked three shots, the second time in his last three games he has blocked three shots.
Amina Muhammad scored six points and grabbed eight rebounds.
Khadija Faye scored nine points and added five rebounds.
The Longhorns got 26 points from their bench players, including a fast break basket Anissa Gutierrez.
