Amotherby table tennis tournament honors the late player

Amotherby Table Tennis Club organized the tournament in memory of Kris Waluk who passed away about 15 years ago.

Kris suffered a severe stroke and was taken to Hull Royal Infirmary, where he was put into a coma and later died.

He moved to Malton from Poland and played for the Amotherby club after forming a friendship with club member Nick Knight.

The couple met while working together in the kitchen at Rivermead Care Home in Norton.

Nick, 62, who lives near Castle Howard, described Kris as a bubbly little character.

As a tribute to Kris, Nick said the club planned to hold a fun and light event in her memory.

19 played in a tournament on 28th December at Amotherby Village Hall.

There were three competitions, and the juniors won all three.

Club President Linda Clarke said: Powder pie was eaten, fancy hats encouraged and prizes awarded.

Everyone is enjoying themselves.

Linda explained how the club has wanted to hold a tournament for many years but this was the first opportunity to do so.

The goal is also to repeat the event next year (2024).
