Three former Seminoles await the NWSL draft

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. –Three former Seminole soccer players will determine their futures Thursday night at the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) draft. The draft will be held at 6 p.m. at the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Philadelphia and can be seen on CBS Sports Network, Paramount+ and CBS Sports Headquarters. Live updates can also be found at https://www.nwslsoccer.com/nwsldraft. Emily Madril, Jenna Nighswonger and Clara Robbins are projected to be high in the draft Thursday night.

Nighswonger is projected to be a first-round pick Thursday night after being named a MAC Hermann Trophy finalist less than a week ago. Nighswonger had a phenomenal 2022 and was named the United Soccer Coaches Scholar Player of the Year. Nighswonger started all 22 games for the Seminoles and scored 28 points on six goals and 16 assists. His 16 assists were the second most in school history.

Only one player played more collegiate soccer than Clara Robbins, as the Seminoles were named to two World Championship teams in 2018 and 2021. Robbins played in 110 games during her seven-year college career. In total, Robbins had 17 goals and 25 assists while wearing the garnet and gold.

Madril, who played for the Seminoles from 2017-21, was a First Team All-America selection in 2021, but was also named ACC Defensive Player of the Year. During his Seminoles career, Madril had six goals and seven assists for a total of 19 points. Madril was a key part of FSU’s 2021 National Championship team and was named to the 2021 College Cup All-Tournament Team.

“Jenna, Clara and Emily are phenomenal players and people. They have left this program with a lasting legacy for many. “It’s very special for them to realize their dream tomorrow night,” head coach Brian Pensky said.
