Waxman, McDivitt Shine Again for Utah Diving on Final Day of UCLA Diving

ANGELS Holly Waxman achieved third place in the women’s 1m final and Luke McDivitt earned a fourth-place finish in the men’s platform on Sunday as the University of Utah diving team competed on the final day of the UCLA Diving Invite held at the Spieker Aquatic Complex.

“We had a strong decision from a tough meet,” said the diving coach Richard Marchner. “We had a few people in the rankings that will go up to the NCAAs if they end up like that in the regionals, so it was encouraging to see that. Fortunately, we have a week off from competing and traveling, so we’re using that time to pay our fines. tune some things up and get ready for the Pac-12 to and zones.”

Waxman started his day with a great performance in the preliminaries, which earned him 293.40 points and put him in second place. by Kathryn Grant efforts in the heats earned him a score of 266.95 and placed 11th. Lexi Mills a total of 255.00 points, putting both divers into the 1-meter finals with Waxman. Waxman and Grant’s work also surpassed the NCAA Championship qualifying benchmark.

McDivitt secured a spot in the men’s platform final with a score of 314.25 that placed him sixth. Ben Smyth was just a few points behind his teammate with a score of 297.35, which put him in eighth and of Jenner Pennock a score of 268.80 placed him 12th.

In the women’s final, Waxman scored 284.70 points for a total of 578.10, placing her third on the afternoon. Grant finished 13th on the day, while Mills finished 18th.

McDivitt improved by more than 40 points in the finals, amassing 355.15 points, an effort that vaulted her into fourth place with 669.40. Pennock finished 12th in the men’s final^th. McDivitt’s scores in the preliminaries and finals both reached the NCAA championship level.
