Women’s swimming and diving prepare for the home meet against Princeton on Friday night

NEW YORK The Columbia women’s swimming and diving team hosts its final home meet of the season on Friday night as the Lions welcome the Princeton Tigers to the Uris Natatorium for conference action. The contest is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. Colombia enters Friday on a two-game winning streak for first place at the ECAC Winter Championships.

SENIOR HEALTH

The Lions will honor the careers of their senior class in tomorrow’s meet. This includesIsabelle Arevalo, Isabella Fratesi, Olivia Jubin, Mother Le, Karen Liu, Jessica Peng, Olivia Ricardand Jing Tan.

“We are excited to honor this group of seniors who have made a big impact on the program with their performance, leadership and ability to turn around and meet all the challenges that the pandemic gave us in the middle of their college careers,” head coach. Diana Caskey said. “They are all great athletes with big hearts.”

THE LAST TIME

The Columbia women’s swimming and diving team rewrote Cornell’s pool record book Saturday afternoon with a dominating, 169-126, victory over the Big Red.

SeniorsOlivia JubinandKaren Liueach set two pool records in the afternoon. Jubin won the 1000 free in a record time of 9:55.38 and also set a record in the 500 meter split in the same event. Meanwhile, Liu broke the 200 fly record in 2:00.56 before setting the record in the 200 breast in 2:16.25.

To the teamGrace Zhou,Georgia Young,Emily MacDonaldandIsabelle Arevaloset a pool record in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:42.39.

Also included are the other winners of the eventAziza Ganihanova(100 back: 55:55),Ashley Hu(100 breast: 1:03.29),Emily MacDonald(50 free/100 free: 23.12/50.00) andRiley Pujadas(200 back: 2:01.73).

SOUTING PRINCETON
The Tigers enter Friday’s game with a 6-2 record so far this season. Princeton has wins over Brown and Dartmouth and losses to Cornell and Penn in Ivy League competition.

Last time out, the Tigers beat Navy and Notre Dame in a triple-header. In the 200 backstroke, the Tigers earned a 1-2-3 sweep; Meg Wheller finished first with a time of 1:57.52, Isabelle Korbly second in 1:58:53 and Liza Whitmire third in 1:59:58. Princeton also earned two top finishes in the 100 freestyle with Nikki Venema touching the wall in an NCAA B cut time of 48.60 and Sabrina Johnston in 49.85.

Last season, the Tigers finished the regular season with an 8-1 overall record and finished fourth in the Ivy League championships. In their individual matchup last season, Princeton beat the Lions 189-99.

The Lions begin their regular season finale on Saturday, January 28 against Dartmouth. The meeting begins at noon in Hanover, New Hampshire,
