Men’s tennis will take both matches in a doubleheader

CHAMPAGNE, Ill. Illinois men’s tennis secured two wins today after defeating Butler and Illinois State on the first day of the home match.

The Illini improve to a 4-2 record on the season.

“It was an exciting day for the guys,” Asst Tim Kopinski said. “For many of them it was their first dual match inside Atkins in front of our amazing fans. We look forward to another strong test tomorrow.”

Butler, 4-0

The doubles games got off to a bad start for the Illini Lucas Horve and Gabriel Guzauskas falling, 6-3.

Everything started to look ahead Hunter Heck and Kenta Miyoshi took his match 6-1. The point was caught with a Charles Ozolins and William Mroz 6-4 win.

Aleksi Petrov was the first Illini to win, winning 6-0, 6-1, followed by Nic Meister won 6-0, 6-0. Mroz won 6-2, 6-1.

Illinois State, 6-1

The singles matches started and ended in less than an hour between Ozolins and Hunter Heck won 6-1, after which Mroz and Kenta Miyoshi 6-0 victory.

Mathis Debru started singles wins a A 6-0, 6-1 victory, after which Miyoshi won 6-0, 6-3.

Meister ended his day off with a 6-0, 6-3 win Oliver Okonkwo 7-5, 6-0 sweep.

Guzauskas was the Illini’s last with a 6-3, 6-2 win. Mroz battled to a super tie after losing the first set 5-7, but won the second set 7-5, only to drop the tiebreaker 6-10 to give Illinois State one point.
