Two weeks after hiring KJ Florence to replace strength and conditioning coach Tersoo Uhaa, who left Georgia to join Deion Sanders at Colorado, Kirby Smart and director of strength and conditioning Scott Sinclair have hired another strength coach. The program announced Saturday that Markell Clark has joined the program after a year at Mississippi State as the assistant strength and conditioning coach.

“Anyone who knows my story knows how much this means to me! Thanks to Scott Sinclair and Kirby Smart for the opportunity,” Clark said via his personal Twitter account. “Been a while but I’m back HOME! Let’s get to work! Go Dawgs.”

Prior to that, Clark spent a year at Arkansas State as a grad assistant after spending two years as an intern at Appalachian State after graduation. A native of Dacula, Ga., Clark played defensive line for the Mountaineers, recording 18 tackles and three tackles for loss.

Sinclair will also retain Lonnie Brown, who joined the staff in March 2022 to fill in for Rodney Prince, who left to take a position in Miami in February, and Jordan Barber, who was hired in January 2022 to fill the position held. Ben Sowders, who left to take the head strength and conditioning position in Louisville earlier that month.

“I think the way I am in the weight room is full of energy and I always think that my attitude and energy has to reflect what I expect from them,” Sinclair said back in March 2021. “There are a lot of things that go into helping you grow, not just as a football player but as a man. We want to be more than just a coach. We want to be a father figure. And me and my staff are really proud of that. Right now in our offseason program, we’ve dived deeper into the mental aspect of training — connection, toughness, grit and composure. We’re always looking for better ways challenge our players. I want our players to be physically, mentally and emotionally ready to handle what coach (Kirby) Smart and our football coaches throw at them. And ultimately, we try to get better every year.”
