The Eastern Washington University women’s tennis team welcomed Whitman College today (February 18) with a 7-0 victory inside the Jim Thorpe Fieldhouse. The Eagles improved to 2-1 overall and look to continue their push tomorrow at home when they host Portland.
“We started the dual with a lot of energy. Whitman is a great team, the No. 1 nationally ranked Division III team, and they play very well, so it was good to come out and commit to the performance we’ve been practicing,” the head coach said. Dustin Hinson. “We had a great time at No. 3 doubles, and it was a battle at No. 1 and No. 2. We did a good job of stepping up in big moments and pulling out matches. Singles was another battle, top to bottom, and we kept going with our momentum, playing the ball and playing ourselves. We had some tight sets and tight games, but we put in the effort and I’m happy with the results. We’ll try to carry that energy into tomorrow’s game against Portland.”
The Eagles move the Blues to 1-3 overall, as EWU extends its streak to 6-1 and improves to a 5-0 streak in the World Cup. Eastern Washington has given up just two points in its last four games against Whitman, with the last three wins going 7-0.
