Aggies close out SEC Championship – Texas A&M Athletics

BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Well. 19 The Texas A&M women’s swimming and diving team wrapped up the SEC Championships at the Rec Center Natatorium on Saturday. The Aggies finished ninth with 583.5 points.

Two Aggies scored in the mile, including Abby Grottle ranking 17th (16:12.04) and Rachel Love coming 20th (16:17.33). Both times were personal bests for each swimmer, and Grottle’s tied for the sixth-fastest time in school history.

Aviv Barzelay finished in the top 10 for the Aggies in the 200 back finals with a 1:52.91 swim. Also add points, Abigail Ahrens earned a personal best time of 1:55.37 and finished 21st in the finals.

100 in the free final Chloe Stepanek finished fifth after a tight finish and swam to a score of 48.20. The junior earned a silver medal this week when she competed in the 200 free, her third career medal in the event.

Texas A&M had two swimmers in the C final of the 200 breaststroke. Desiree Mangaoang at 2:11.66 and Charlotte Longbottom for a 2:14.14, both adding to A&M’s total.

At the end of the meet, the Aggies placed seventh in the 400 free relay. Jordan Buechler, Bobbi Kennett, Olivia Theall and Stepanek clocked the team’s fastest time of the season, 3:14.88.

Texas A&M swimming will return to the pool for its three-day Last Chance Meet, which will be held on the 23rd-25th. February at the Rec Center Natatorium. Divers prepare to compete at the NCAA Zone D Diving Championships in Minneapolis, Minnesota, 7-9. March.
