The Huskies host UNLV for Wednesday’s game

SEATTLE After winning its first conference series, No. 10 Washington hosts UNLV for its first home game of the season on Tuesday afternoon.

30 YEARS OF WASHINGTON SOFTBALL

2023 will be Washington softball’s 30th season. The Huskies’ first program year was 1993. Head coach Heather Tarr has been involved in 24 seasons in 30 Purple and Gold series as a player, manager and coach.

THE LAST TIME

The Huskies won their conference opener against Oregon 2-1 over the weekend. The Ducks won the first game 8-6, but the Huskies won the last two games 13-8 and 9-7. These two programs for a total of 51 continue in a three-game series.

PAC CHAIR(S).
Baylee Klinger is the conference leader in doubles (8) and is one of the toughest to hit with just one on the season. Freshman Ruby Meylan leads Pac-12 with six shutouts. Brooklyn Carter is second on the Pac with 12 stolen bases on the year. As a team, the Huskies rank second in the Pac-12 in scoring, averaging 7.33 runs per game. Washington is also second in the conference with 37 doubles and 12 shutouts.

DOESN’T USE LIKE A FRESHMAN

Four freshmen have contributed heavily to the Husky program so far in 2023. Alan Johnson is fourth on the team with 14 RBIs and third with five home runs. He became the first Husky this season to hit multiple home runs in a game, hitting two against Oregon. Ruby Meylan is nationally in the top 10 shutouts (6). Brooklyn Carter is a force on the base paths, leading the team with 12 stolen bases. Sydney Stewart is interim at catcher with a .375 average and three RBIs.

THE REBEL PARTY

UNLV is 14-10 on the season. The Rebels are 1-4 coming into the weekend at the Seattle U Invitational where they faced Montana and Seattle U. Denise Armendariz leads the team with a .338 average. Ariana Martinez leads the Rebels with seven home runs and 22 RBIs.

Washington is 12-4-1 all-time vs. UNLV. The Huskies have won their last seven meetings with the Rebels. This will be the first meeting between the two programs in Seattle.

NEXT

The Huskies return to conference play when they travel to Los Angeles for a three-game series with UCLA beginning Friday.
