Northern Kentucky Norse Hockey won the state championship

CRESCENT SPRINGS, Ky. The Northern Kentucky Varsity Norsemen Hockey team is the Kentucky State Champion!

The Norsemen competed in Louisville, KY the weekend of the 3rd-5th. March and came home with a state title. The team is made up of high school age hockey players from Northern Kentucky. The Norsemen are led by head coach Eric Kathman. This is the team’s third state championship in the last seven years, with the win also coming in 2017 and 2019.

The Norsemen next play in Plymouth, MN for the National HS Tournament on the 23rd-27th. March.

On Sunday night, the Norwegian community came out to celebrate the teams’ success at the Northern Kentucky Ice Center in Crescent Springs.

NKIC has hockey programs that start for kids as young as 4 years old and continue through high school to the varsity level.

Head coach Eric Kathman has coached hockey for over 25 years and knows the excitement that surrounds this hockey community in Northern Kentucky, but also knows the love from those who are part of the Norwegian family.

“It’s an honor for me to wear that badge is something special. We’ve been to the state finals for the last 7 years and this is our 3rd state championship,” noted head coach Eric Kathman.

“They had no fear, these guys, they just went out and played,” Kathman said.
