International cricket tournament
The 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifiers Playoffs is the opening edition of the ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier Play-off, a cricket tournament that is part of the qualifying process for the 2023 Cricket World Cup.[1][2] It will be held in March and April 2023,[3] all matches have One Day International (ODI) status, regardless of whether a team had ODI status before the start of the event.[4]
Six teams qualified for the tournament, the bottom four teams from the 20192023 ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 and the top teams from Groups A and B of the 20192022 ICC Cricket World Cup Challenge League.[5] The top two teams from this tournament will advance to the 2023 Cricket World Cup Qualifiers, while the rest will be eliminated from the World Cup.[6]
This competition determined all promotion or relegation between League 2 and the Challenge League. The two bottom-placed teams in League 2 (Papua New Guinea and the United Arab Emirates) and the two Challenge League winners (Canada and Jersey) will play actually lower tournament: the top two teams from this quartet qualify for the next League 2 series and gain/retain ODI status, while the bottom two teams play in the next Challenge League series.[7]
The International Cricket Council announced the schedule for the tournament on 20 March 2023.[8]
This is the first time that Jersey will play their matches in ODI status.[9]
