Pitching Slows Bears and Sun Devils Take Finals in Extras

BERKELEY, Calif. Arizona State avoided a sweep of California in Berkeley in a modern three-game sweep with a 4-2 victory in eight innings Sunday afternoon. The Sun Devils hit a two-run home run Alexa Milius lead in the eighth inning.

Mac Osborne and Kenzie Brown limited the Golden Bears to just six singles. Brown earned the win with six strikeouts and two hits in four scoreless innings. Milius had a season-high three RBIs.

HOW DID IT HAPPEN

  • Savannah Price doubled to start ASU’s third on either team’s first hit of the game. Look reached the third a Yanni Acuña groundout and scored after Milius’ groundout.
  • Cal tied the score at 1-1 with a pair of singles and an error in the fourth.
  • Kayla Lissy led off the fifth and finished on a wild pitch with a 2-1 advantage.
  • Brown sent the Sun Devils into extra innings with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning.
  • ASU’s eighth started with a walk to Acuna to start Milius’ home run.
  • Brown finished the win with two strikeouts after working around the first inning.

NOTEWORTHY

  • Milius’ home run was his first since March 20, 2022 (Virginia Tech vs. North Carolina) and 90 at-bats.
  • The Sun Devils improved to 2-0 in extra innings this season.
