Men’s tennis falls on the way to California

BERKELEY, California The UCLA men’s tennis team suffered a 4-0 conference loss against California on Friday afternoon at the Hellman Tennis Complex. Originally scheduled to start at 1:00 PM PT, the match was delayed three times due to rain before starting three hours later.

The Bruins dropped to 9-6 (1-2 Pac-12) with the loss. Yuta Kikuchi picked up the overall win for the Golden Bears (10-7, 2-2). Carl Emil Overbeck and Philip Hjorth also won Cal on the singles courts.

Overbeck and Siddhant Banthia opened the singles and won the top court 6-1. Timothy Li and James Revelli. Each of the remaining matches ended at 5-5, and the Court 2 match was ultimately abandoned in the semifinals. The Golden Bears sealed the double point in their favor when Hjorth and Kikuchi lasted longer Jeffrey Fradkin and Aadarsh ​​Tripathi 7 to 5.

Every singles first inning went Cal’s way. Overbeck and Hjorth collected near-simultaneous victories on Courts 3 and 5. Overbeck defeated Tripathi by decision 6–1, 6–3, while Hjorth defeated Ballotta 6–1, 6–2.

The match was decided on Court 1, where No. 37 Kikuchi beat Zahraj 6-4, 6-2.
