BROOKINGS – The Brookings tennis team began its season Tuesday after having to wait two weeks due to weather. The Bobcats will host a triangular at the Hillcrest tennis courts against Aberdeen Roncalli and Mitchell. They lost to Roncalli 6-3 and fell to Mitchell 9-0.
Brookings returns to action on Thursday in Brookings as the Bobcats host a triathlon against Harrisburg and Sioux Falls Lincoln. They face Harrisburg at 11 a.m. and Lincoln at 4 p.m
• Aberdeen Roncalli 6, Brookings 3
James Park and Andrew Hahn picked up wins for the Bobcats in individual games against the Cavaliers. Park is the No. 4 singles and defeated Sawyer Henrich 10-9. He won the final set 7-5. Hahn was no. 5 single and faced Jacob Bellefeuille. He won the match 10-5.
Ayden Asche was No. 1 singles for the Bobcats, falling to Cason Helluig 10-4. Braylon Peters is the no. 2 single and he took on Palmer Johnson to fall 10-3. Carson Kreie fell 10-2 to Gannon May at No. 3 singles and Xavier St. Pierre lost to Ezra Feickert 10-7 at No. 6 singles.
Hahn and St. Pierre won their singles matches in thrilling fashion. They are the No. 3 doubles seed and beat Bellefeuille and Feickert 10-9, winning 7-5 in the final set. Asche and Park lost to Johnson and May 10-4 at No. 1 doubles and Peters and Kreie lost to Henrich and Helluig 10-1.
• Mitchell 9, Brookings 0
The going was tough for the Bobcats in the second game of the day. Park was the only Brookings player to come close to winning in singles, losing to Nathan Wagner 10-7 in the No. 4 match. Asche and Peters each lost 10-2 in the No. 1 and No. 2 matches.
Carson Kreie fell to Levi Loken 10-4 in match No. 3. Asche lost to Luke Jerke and Peters Jager to Juracek. Hahn fell to Matthew Mauszyck 10-1 in the No. 5 match and St. Pierre fell to Zach Fuhrer 10-2.
Asche and park fell at No. 1 doubles 10-3 to Jerke and Juracek. Peters and Kreie lost to Loke and Sutton Thompson 10-1 in the No. 2 match. Hahn and St. Pierre lost to Mauszyck and Fuhrer 10-3 in the No. 3 match.
