Field hockey welcomes Paulina Niklaus

PISCATAWAY, NJ Rutgers field hockey has announced the addition of a new student-athlete to the team. Paulina Niklaus joins the team from Mannheim, Germany.

“We are so happy that Pauli will join us this coming season,” head coach Meredith Civic said. “He has an incredible amount of experience at the highest level and that can only be a positive for the team. I know he is as excited as we are and we can’t wait to start the 2023 season with Paul. The Scarlet Knight.”

Midfielder Niklaus has competed at a high level in Germany. He played for the U-21 national team and won the 2022 European Championship. He has been playing field hockey since he was four years old and has helped his team in Mannheim to finish second in the German championships four times. He also played for the Senior national team in the FIH Pro League last year against the USA and China.

The daughter of Carmen and Thomas Niklaus has one older sister, Anna. His father played second division football in Germany.

Niklaus is the first Scarlet Knight from Germany since Milena Redlingshoefer, a Munich native who played at RU from 2018-21 and was an All-Big Ten selection after leading the team in scoring as RU won the Big Ten Tournament Championship in 2021.
