Zimbabwe Cricket announces new T10 franchise tournament

Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) in association with T Ten Global Sports has announced the country’s much-anticipated franchise-based T10 tournament featuring cricket stars from around the world.

The inaugural competition of the new competition, known as the Zim Afro T10, will be played in August this year and will feature six privately owned teams.

Participating franchises, player auction dates, fixtures and other details will be announced in due course.

This is the latest T10 tournament founded by T Ten Global Sports, which is behind Abu Dhabi T10 in UAE and Lanka 10 in Sri Lanka.

ZC chairman Tavengwa Mukuhlani said he is confident the league will provide great entertainment for fans, top level competition for players and wide exposure for investors.

We are excited to announce our very own franchise-based T10 league, a powerful format that we believe is exactly what our changing, fast-paced world needs right now,” said Mukuhlani.

T Ten Global Sports founder and chairman Nawab Shaji Ul Mulk, the UAE investor behind the high-end Zim Cyber-City real estate project being developed in Mount Hampden on the outskirts of Harare, said he was excited to bring the magic of T10 cricket to Zimbabwe.

The Zim Afro T10 was announced at a media conference where Mr Mulk spoke alongside ZC CEO Givemore Makoni and Zim Cyber-City CEO Tendayi Hlupo-Mamvura in Harare on Friday afternoon.

This was followed by a gala dinner to officially announce the tournament. Among the guests were government ministers, business leaders, diplomats and international cricketers.
