Women’s tennis falls to No. 2 Charleston Southern, 4-0, in the Big South semifinals

CHARLOTTE Gardner-Webb women’s tennis fell to Charleston Southern 4-0 on Saturday afternoon in a semifinal match for the 2023 Big South Conference Championship.

Well. The No. 2 seed Buccaneers took the doubles point, winning 6-3 at No. 2 doubles and 6-4 at No. 3 doubles. Pair No. 1 Manon Delsol and Emilia Rosalind led 5-3, but the match was abandoned.

With the doubles point in hand, Charleston Southern closed out the win with three singles wins.

Well. 5 Zoe Cauthen took a 6-0, 6-0 victory to put the Bucs up 2-0 and No. 3 Now Boyd won 6-1, 6-2 for a 3-0 margin. Luiza Fullana’s win at No. 1 singles (6-4, 6-0) ended the afternoon and sent Charleston Southern to Sunday’s final.

It was the second consecutive year that Gardner-Webb had reached the semifinals. The Runnin’ Bulldogs (7-9) advanced to the championship last season.
