Michigan State football is in the top 6 for 4-star WR Kwazi Gilmer

Death. Taxes. Top schools list season. Michigan State football fans know all too well what it’s like to make an elite target on a list of top schools only to end up missing out.

Mel Tucker wants to change that.

On Sunday, Michigan State made the cut with two top Class of 2024 targets that Spartan fans may not be too familiar with.

One was four-star athlete Rashawn Clark and the other was four-star wideout Kwazi Gilmer.

Like Clark’s top six, Gilmer is a Pac-12 heavyweight. There is only one non-Pac-12 team on the list besides Michigan State and that is Oklahoma. The Sooners are becoming rivals with the Spartans on the recruiting trail with the likes of David Stone, Xadavie Sims and Bai Jobe. They also have to contend with Cal, Stanford, UCLA and Washington.

It’s a tough competition for California’s four-star receiver.

Michigan State football needs more playmakers

Losing Germie Bernard to a transfer this offseason definitely hurt the receiving corps’ prospects, but Tucker isn’t letting that deter him from targeting West Coast athletes like Gilmer.

Gilmer is the 290th all-purpose and 43rd-best receiver in the 2024 class, according to the 247Sports Composite. He would be a nice addition to the Spartans class, especially if they can get Nick Marsh to re-commit. That duo would be huge in the receiving corps.

The California four-star is 6-foot-2 and 180 pounds, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see him take an official visit this summer.

Let’s see if the Spartans can shut down the elite four-star.
