Joe Pavelski’s four-goal game got a special nickname on Hockey Twitter

Tuesday night saw an exciting opening in the second round series between the Dallas Stars and the Seattle Kraken. Kraken won 5-4 in overtime, but the story of the night belonged to the Stars’ veteran forward. Joe Pavelski.

The 38-year-old American returned to Dallas’ lineup after two weeks out injured and promptly scored all four of the team’s goals in the loss. The exceptional performance earned Pavelski praise from the hockey media.

It was also given a rather interesting nickname.

Pavelski’s hat was nicknamed “The Dick Trick” by Hockey Twitter. The origin of the nickname was inspired by Pavelski’s time as a member of the San Jose Sharks during the 2013-14 season.

Then rookie forward Tomas Hertl scored four goals past the New York Rangers and the fourth came a a ridiculously beautiful, between-the-legs flick past netminder Martin Biron.

The result of the top division sparked discussions about possible showboating in the Sharks locker room after the game. Joe Thornton took exception to this discussion and responded in turn with colorful language.

Thornton asked Marleau a question about Hertl and whether he was on the show boat.

“Shut up, have you ever played a game?”

When the press turned around, he added:

– I would get the cake if I scored four goals. I’d take my dick out and stroke it.”

Pavelski secured the historic milestone with less than seven minutes remaining in the third period with Seattle leading 4-3. Stars defender Jani Hakanp tried to slide the puck to Pavelski in front of the net, but it went off the Kraken defender’s stick in the air.

This made Pavelski’s chance difficult, but clearly not impossible, as he still hit the biscuit out of the air past Philipp Grubauer. Great commentary on the goal provided by ESPN’s Bob Wischusen.

Pavelski was coming back after taking an explosive hit from Minnesota’s Matt Dumba in the first game of the first round.

At the prime age of 38 years and 295 days, Pavelski became the oldest player in NHL history to score a four-goal game in either the regular season or the playoffs. Before scoring his fourth goal of the night, he also became the second-oldest player to score a hat trick in the playoffs. Boston’s Johnny Bucyk (38 years and 344 days) holds the record, set on April 21, 1974 against the Chicago Blackhawks.

Pavelski’s 68 postseason totals and 130 playoff points lead all players still in the playoffs this year. These 68 goals are behind only Sidney Crosby (71) and Alex Ovechkin (72) among all active players.
