Women’s tennis Chekhlystova picks up academic honor

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.Penn State Women’s Tennis Junior Sofia Chekhlystova added to his postseason honors Tuesday, earning academic all-District honors as announced by College Sports Communicators.

Chekhlystova has a 3.88 GPA in the IUG accounting program. She was an Academic All-Big Ten and Big Ten Distinguished Scholar selection in 2022. Chekhlystova helped the Nittany Lions to 12 wins this spring.

He was recently named to the All-Big Ten list for the second time in his career.

Chekhlystova is currently ranked No. 69 in the ITA Singles Poll and is an alternate at the NCAA Singles Championships. He reached even 42 in the ranking this spring.

The Estonian posted a 21-7 singles record in 2022-23, including 16-6 in dual matches while playing at No. 1. He went 5-2 in Big Ten games. He ended the season with a seven game hitting streak.

In doubles, Chekhlystova recorded 10 wins, nine of them at the top of the doubles. On March 19, he was reunited Carla Girbau went 6-0 over Wisconsin’s No. 54 Ava Markham and Maria Sholokhova.

During her Nittany Lion career, Chekhlystova has 40 singles wins, including 35 singles wins, and 23 doubles wins.
