Michigan Football is on the rise for an elite class of 2024 running backs

The Wolverines already have a commitment from one top-100 running back, but could they add another?

Things have cooled down a bit on the Michigan football recruiting trail. While that may not be great, it was expected when so many prospects ended their recruitment and official visits increase in about a month.

The Wolverines are a very unique position. Their top-rated four goals have all come on the offensive side of the ball. Considering the Wolverines have been seen as more of a defensive team during Jim Harbaugh’s tenure, that’s somewhat surprising.

More surprising (in a good way) is that the Wolverines are in the running for another top-100 offensive player. That player runs back Taylor Tatumwho is ranked as the 33rd player in the country in the 247 sports combination ranking.

Tatum’s Michigan football recruitment has been up and down in recent months. The Wolverines were considered the leader and were even projected to land Tatum. And then Jordan Marshall committed to the Wolverines out of nowhere.

Now that’s not a bad thing by any means. Jordan Marshall is going to be a fantastic running back at Michigan, and stealing him from Ohio State was incredible.

For Tatum, though, it was a bit of a divisive factor in his recruitment. While he noted that Marshall’s commitment didn’t change his view of Michigan, it seemed like things were cooling off.

Tatum visited USC and Georgia, and both programs seemed to win when Michigan football went down.

Fast forward to today, and Michigan football appears to be on the rise once again in Tatum’s recruitment. The Wolverines have a handful of assets in Tatum that could end up being deciding factors.

First, Tatum is a star baseball player and was recruited by Michigan’s baseball team before the football staff was involved. Michigan gives Tatum the opportunity to play both, and they also have evidence that it is possible to play both, as Joey Velazquez has shown.

Tatum and his family also hold scientists in high esteem. While USC offers an excellent education, Michigan’s education is just as good, if not better. This is another big selling point for the Wolverines.

Next, Michigan football obviously has a great record with running backs, especially two-back tandems. Haskins and Corum, Corum and Edwards. There is a real feeling that Marshall and Tatum could be next.

Despite this, there has been a lot of hype on social media after Tatum said, “It’s a 1-2 punch that I’m willing to be a part of.” ON3.

Michigan football commits have been showing Tatum a lot of love on social media, and Tatum is very sensitive about the Wolverines.

I think Michigan is the #1 school for Tatum. I also think the commitment of another top 100 runner is a little scary.

Michigan plans to host Tatum for an official visit in June, and if they can wow him again and convince him that playing with Marshall would benefit him, I think they can get him.

With Tatum set to commit in the fall, there will be plenty of time for Michigan to continue making progress with the Texas prospect. I think right now this is a three horse race with Michigan, USC and Georgia. Georgia’s push could be a concern, but I think Michigan can win this recruiting.
