The 41-year-old has been one of the stories of the season so far, with many predicting a race win at some point. Alonso is also heavily backing himself to deliver a Grand Prix win for Aston Martin in 2023 and has pinpointed the races where it could be most likely, with an eye on Monaco’s chances.

When asked by Sky Sports F1 presenter Martin Brundle If he could win a race or two in 2023, Alonso replied: I think so.

He continued: Hopefully soon. I do not know. We seem to have a car that may not be the fastest on the straights. We need to improve that, but we are very good in the corners.

“So I would say the slowest speeds in the championship, say Monaco, Budapest, Singapore. Tracks like that, I think we’re setting our highest hopes at the moment.”

After Aston Martin’s impressive rise to seventh in the Constructors’ Championship last year, Alonso feels good about his decision to join the Alpine team.

But for a man who has seen and done it all in Formula 1, he still admits there were doubts about whether he had made the right call.

Of course, the Spaniard admitted when Brundle asked about his doubts about the move.

I think in August every team is optimistic about the next year. Alpine thought the car would be good and I spoke to Lawrence [Stroll] when Seb [Vettel] retired. He said we have a fantastic team and the car will be very different to Sebastian and Lance [Stroll] are driving right now. I said, Okay, everyone thinks the same way, but let’s see.

Its coin in the air, you never know the outcome and you don’t have a crystal ball. But I am definitely satisfied with the end result.
