VANCOUVER, BC Vancouver Whitecaps FC defender Javain Brown has been named as a member of Jamaica’s men’s national team for the 2023 Concacaf Gold Cup.
The Reggae Boyz will open the group stage against Whitecaps FC midfielder Julian Gressel and the United States on Saturday, June 24 at Soldier Field in Chicago, Illinois with a 6:30 PM PT kickoff.
In the other group stage match, Jamaica will face Trinidad and Tobago on Wednesday, June 28 at CITYPARK in St. Louis, Missouri, with a kickoff time of 4:30 PM PT.
Finally, Brown and his country will conclude the group stage on Sunday, July 2 at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California against the winner of the preliminary round between French Guiana and Saint Kitts and Nevis.
Brown played in both of Jamaica’s most recent friendlies against Qatar and Jordan, starting the latter. In total, the 2021 MLS SuperDraft pick has represented his country at the senior international level 22 times since making his debut for Jamaica against Trinidad & Tobago in 2017. After joining the national team program at the U-17 level, the Kingston native scored five. Caps for the U-20 national team and four at the U-23 level, including three at the 2019 Pan American Games in Peru.
This year for the ‘Caps, Brown has scored one goal and added three assists in 17 starts and 20 appearances in all competitions. The fullback, who has also seen time at center back, helped Vancouver secure back-to-back Voyageurs Cup titles for the first time in club history.
All-time Brown has two goals and nine assists in 60 starts and 76 games for the ‘Caps over three seasons.
