Draaisma was named an At-Large CSC Academic All-American

ANN ARBOR, Mich. — Senior Annaka Draaisma The University of Michigan rowing program was named to the 2023 College Sports Communicators Academic All-America Division I Women’s At-Large team, it was announced Thursday (June 22). Draaisma earned third-team honors and joins former teammate Annika Hoffman (2020-21) as the program’s only Academic All-Americans.

Wednesday (June 21), UM wrestling Matt Finesilver earned third-team honors in the men’s At-Large voting.

This is the first Academic All-America honor for Draaima, who earned a degree in business this spring. He is enrolled in the Stephen M. Ross School of Business Masters of Management program for the fall 2023 semester. Draaisma is a Big Ten Distinguished Scholar, a two-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree and a two-time College Rowing Coaches Association Scholar-Athlete with 2023 honors remaining.

A native of Ada, Michigan, Draaisma entered the UM program as a novice. Decorated for his work in the classroom, he has also helped the Wolverines succeed on the water. Draaisma has been a part of two Big Ten Championship winning teams (2021, ’23) during the program’s recent rise.

He also has won three Big Ten boat medals (2021, 2V4, gold; 2022, 1V4, silver), including a silver he helped lead Michigan to a 2V8 victory at the Big Ten Championships this spring (May 14). The Wolverines were an automatic qualifier for the 2023 NCAA Championships, where the team finished 11th. From the shock seat of the 2V8, Draaisma competed in the championship for the second time in his career.
