Bluey’s creator reveals the upbringing of Blueys cricket episode, which mirrors Steve Smiths technique

Inside something recent interview with News Corpseries creator Joe Brumm revealed that Rusty’s technique was inspired by Smith’s swashbuckling style of play, with several references to Smith’s precise cutting bag and high elbows.

Both Smith and Rusty have a passion for cricket and are products of the humble world of backyard cricket where skills are honed in varying conditions.

Just as Smith fine-tuned his skills in the backyard of his home in Sydney, watching his father from only eight feet away as the plants stood as fielders, Rusty refines his game on a bumpy field.

One of the standout moments in Bluey’s episode of Rusty is when he finishes his cut and aims at a wooden panel near the kitchen without endangering his mother who is working behind it.

Brumm explained that this scene was inspired by a story he had heard about football coaches who praised the creativity of players who grew up playing on unconventional fields rather than structured training programs.

“It was inspired by a story I’d heard where a soccer coach described how some of their best players were the ones who didn’t make it through well-organized clinics, but grew up on rough and ready, unusual fields. would develop more creativity, would have to adapt,” Brumm told News Corp.

“That and Wayne Gretzky’s upbringing, oddly enough, were big inspirations for the episode. It also drags Bradman into history. In fact, the pitch that Tiny plays on was visually based on Bradman’s first.

Bluey has been a huge global success, becoming a streamed series in America in April, with viewers spending a staggering 737 million minutes watching.

“Cricket worked into every corner of my life as a kid. It was just always there. The episode uses cricket, of course, but it represents any sport that brought your family and friends together,” Brumm said.

– I only played in front yards and on beaches. I wasn’t very good, but I liked it. I liked all the variations of the game and where you played – I took the classic catches on the beach if you played on the beach.

Cricket enthusiasts have long wanted to make significant inroads in the vast American market, where baseball is superior.

There is hope that a Bluey episode centered around cricket could help the sport break through the elusive American market, and Brumm hopes the show will break down cultural boundaries.
