The French team, where table tennis hopefuls Alexis and Flix Lebrun won their second medal in a week, beat Portugal (3-2) on Saturday in a match for the bronze medal in the Polish team tournament at the European Games.
A bad start after the defeat of the pair Simon Gauzy / Alexis Lebrun in the doubles, the French team relied on Flix Lebrun, 16, who won his two singles from Joao Geraldo (3-0) and Marcos Freita (3-1). Siblings’ year Alexis (19) lost his lone face to Tiago Apolonia (1-3), but Simon Gauzy, the world’s 37th player, provided victory for the Blues in the final meeting by beating Portugal’s Joao Jeraldo three sets to nil.
The Lebrun brothers were able to raise their heads after the defeat against Sweden the day before Krakow (2-3), and this bronze medal rewards the two young table tennis players for a rich week. Flix Lebrun, the 31st player in the world, won his first European title in an individual tournament on Tuesday. His older brother Alexis, the 18th player in the world, had finished third. The two brothers are now watching the European team championships, which will be held on the 10th-17th. September in Malmi (Sweden).
