WILMINGTON, NC UNCW relief Ethan Chenault He was selected by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 18th round of the Major League Baseball draft on Tuesday. Chenault was selected in the 553rd place overall.
The right-handed Chenault played in a career-high 26 games as a junior en route to his best season with the Seahawks. Chenault, who earned honorable mention All-Colonial Athletic Association honors, posted a 5-2 record with three saves. In 47.2 innings, also a career best, he struck out 59 (11.14 per nine innings) and held opponents to a meager .202 batting average.
In the CAA tournament, Chenault pitched four innings of one-run baseball against Northeastern to win the championship game. The win was his second of the season against the Huskies.
Chenault becomes the first Seahawk since 2017 to be selected by the Phillies. That season, the organization took infielder Brian Mims in the 22nd round.
