“I saw Shericka … I was like, ‘They can’t give us anything.'”

Gabby Thomas had a whirlwind Sunday at the 2023 USA Track and Field Outdoor Championships. Competing in the 200m final, the American sprinter clocked a world-leading 21.60 seconds to take the world lead from Jamaican sprinter Shericka Jackson in the 200m earlier in the day.

Jackson had set the world record at the Jamaican track and field championships just hours before Thomas competed in the 200m final at the 2023 USA Track and Field National Championships. In a video posted to Twitter by Citius Mag founder Chris Chavez, Thomas reacts to the world’s lead debate that occurred on Sunday.

“I was like come on,” he said. “So I got back from my semifinal, I went on my phone, I saw Shericka (Jackson) get 21.70 (21.71). I was like, ‘They can’t give us anything…nothing.’ for an exam or to Budapest.”

“So, it immediately put me in a different mindset,” he added. “I was like my PB wasn’t good enough. So I really need to start grinding and making sure I’m prepared and that’s why going into the final I had that mindset.”

The American sprinter had clocked a time of 21.86 in the semi-finals in Eugene. Jackson then took the world lead with a time of 21.71 in the 200m final in Jamaica, prompting Thomas to raise his game in the final of his event.

On the final day, Gabby Thomas brought her A-game to the 200m final at the 2023 USA Track and Field Championships to win the title and reclaim the world lead in 21.60.

Gabby Thomas was crowned the 200-meter champion at the 2023 USA Track and Field Outdoor Championships on Sunday, July 9. In a recent post on social media, the American sprinter shared his excitement about winning the 200m title.

He posted pictures of the event on Instagram and described them:

“It never stops feeling as exciting!! Last night was a testament to months of determination, the amazing team I’ve built around me, and the talented women in the sport who continue to raise the bar. Another US Championship today, but I’m even more excited for what’s to come. See you in Budapest 👏 🏽❤️ #wabudapest23”

By running in Eugene, Gabby Thomas was able to bring the world’s attention to her. He is also looking forward to winning the 200-meter championship at the 2023 World Championships in Athletics.

The 2023 World Championships in Athletics will be held from the 19th to the 27th. August at the National Athletics Center in Budapest. The first round of the women’s 200 meters will be played on August 23. The women’s 200m final will be held on August 25.
