Alabama football recruiting: Four-star TE Caleb Odom commits to Tide, adds key playmaker to class

Alabama added one of the nation’s best remaining tight ends in a committed four-star tight end Caleb Odom, a rising senior at Carrollton (Georgia), has committed to the Crimson Tide. Odom chose Alabama over Florida, Miami, Texas A&M and Ole Miss.

Odom is a big tight end talent in the state of Georgia. He is rated 66th on the Top247 list and the 6th tight end in the class. Prior to his commitment, Odom was the best available at his position on the Top247 list, a spot now held by Pickerington Central (Ohio) tight end Tayvion Galloway.

“I see myself fitting in Tuscaloosa and the surrounding area,” Odom said247 Sports. – Then I built a great relationship with the coach [Nick] Saban. They showed me how to take advantage of me and get a coach [Tommy] Rees there. He had some great tight ends at Notre Dame, and that was very appealing.”

At 6-foot-5, 215 pounds, Odom projects to be a dynamic, stocky tight end at the next level.

“Should be viewed as a potential mismatch and one of the top offensive weapons in the 2024 class,” 247Sports director of scouting Andrew Ivins wrote of Odom. “Probably needs some seasoning before he’s ready to go, but skill set suggests he could thrive in a modern spread offense.”

Odom’s addition moved Alabama into the top five in the 247Sports Composite Team Rankings ahead of USC and Penn State. The Crimson Tide has the highest average recruiting rating in the country with just 14 commitments. The next highest class with just 14 commitments is Texas at #20.

Odom was named a Junior All-American by MaxPreps after catching 63 passes for 1,121 yards and 13 touchdowns in leading his Carrollton team to the 7A State Championship game against Mill Creek. Future Alabama teammate Caleb Downs led Mill Creek to a victory over Carrollton in the state title game.
